Temporary Bus Layover
Line Marking Project – Temporary Bus Layover Facility, Fremantle WA
Location: Fremantle Bus Station
Suburb: Fremantle, Western Australia
Facility Type: Temporary Bus Layover
The Problem – Delivering Under Pressure
Delineation Line Marking was engaged to deliver temporary line marking for a newly established temporary bus depot in Fremantle. The depot formed part of a PTA expansion and was required to be fully operational within a defined timeframe.
With bus services scheduled to commence shortly after completion, the line marking works became a critical final stage of the project.
Upon arrival on site, several unexpected challenges became apparent:
The Solution – Structured Execution Under Constraints
We mobilised quickly and worked collaboratively with the site supervisors. Clear communication was essential to ensure surveying data was confirmed before marking commenced.
We utilised high-quality water-based road marking paint, selected for:
As the area had not been swept before our arrival, we immediately liaised with the project manager and organised a last-minute sweeper to attend site. This ensured that debris, dust, and loose material were removed from all areas that were to be line marked, allowing us to achieve ideal paint adhesion and a clean, high-quality lines.
The incomplete asphalt sections required careful assessment. Where repairs were pending, we delayed installation until repairs had been made and continued working on areas where repairs were not needed, this prevented bottle necks and delays.
Despite the surveying delays, we worked with the survey team to communicate what we reference points we needed before applying markings. This ensured dimensional accuracy and compliance with the client’s design and specific requirements for traffic flow.
Compliance & Standards
This project required adherence to MRWA specifications and applicable Australian Standards for line marking and traffic management. Bus depots demand high visibility and clear delineation due to the size and movement patterns of heavy vehicles.
The Result – Operational Readiness on Time
Despite surface challenges, incomplete preparation, and a tight deadline, the depot received:
The client was able to activate the temporary bus depot as scheduled, avoiding operational delays and potential late delivery damages.
This project highlights our ability to deliver under pressure, adapt with the help of the team onsite to evolving conditions, and maintain compliance and quality even when timelines are tight and preparation is less than ideal. Although the situation was less than ideal, we coordinated with other trades and project managers to meet the requirements.
